Opelika, AL

overview

summary:

His Place was founded in 1986 by Rev. Rick Hagans as a place of restoration for men 18 years and older who have a life-controlling problem such as drug abuse, alcohol abuse, etc. The program is one year of intensive Bible-based teaching on Christian manhood, family responsiblity, financial concepts, work ethic, skill development and the understanding of authority and discipline. This is accomplished in an environment of love. The facility is in East Central Alabama in the city of Opelika. At this locations, they can accommodate fifteen men, three per bedroom. There is a modern commercial kitchen, dining room, living room, TV room, classroom, and laundry in the building. They also have a thrift store at this location. Because of the growing need for this type of a facility, there are always new projects and maintenance items that need to be taken care of. BrickThink has signed up to give a helping hand in providing support to complete these various tasks.

past trips

  • November 2010

A team of 3 traveled to Opelika, Alabama in November 2010. Their original intent was to complete several construction projects while there. However, once they arrived, they found that most of the work had already been completed by other volunteers. Instead, they spent their week working at the Thrift Store which is operated by Harvest Evangelism, and had the opportunity to work side by side with the local workers and sift through the piles and piles of donated items.
